About Invisalign
Convenient Treatment That Fits Your Life
If you've ever wanted a straighter smile without obvious metal braces, Invisalign clear aligners could be the perfect fit for you.
Dr. Diana and Dr. Neil are certified experts in using Invisalign to provide effective and efficient treatment to create your perfect smile!
The Invisalign Process
Invisalign is much more comfortable than traditional metal bracket braces and can give you stunning results.
Invisalign uses a series of customized, clear aligners to gradually straighten your teeth with fewer office visits to our Beverly, Salem, Hamilton, or Topsfield offices than traditional braces. They're also removable, nearly invisible, and completely customized for your smile.
When you come to New England Orthodontic Specialists for your complimentary consultation, we'll take photos and X-rays to create a 3D image of your mouth. We use these images to make your first set of custom-fitted aligners and then you'll begin the process of straightening your teeth.
You'll probably wear Invisalign aligners for 9-15 months, and will typically use 18-30 sets during your treatment. You wear the trays for about 22 hours a day as recommended by Dr. Diana or Dr. Neil, but can remove them to brush your teeth and eat.
Based on your individual needs, you'll wear several sets of trays throughout your orthodontic treatment at New England Orthodontic Specialists. The best part is that you'll start to notice a change in just a few months!
Differences Between Invisalign & Braces
Unlike traditional braces, smooth plastic Invisalign aligners don't have metal components that can irritate your mouth.
Because they're removed when you eat, you won't have to watch what you eat like you would when wearing braces — bring on the chewy and crunchy snacks! In fact, the aligners must be removed for eating and drinking anything other than water.
You need to be sure you're willing to do that before you decide on Invisalign clear aligners.
To prevent staining, you'll need to clean your teeth before putting the aligners back on after each time you eat.
Of course, brushing and flossing are much easier than with traditional braces, since you don't have to work around any brackets and wires.
Your Invisalign Responsibility
When it comes to Invisalign treatment, there's a lot to consider. Most Invisalign patients at New England Orthodontic Specialists enjoy shorter check-ups, fewer appointments, better oral hygiene, and fewer emergency visits.
However, the system's biggest pro can also be a con — the ability to remove the aligners. Your cooperation is essential, whether you have braces or Invisalign.
Since braces are attached to your teeth, they do the heavy lifting to keep your treatment progressing. With Invisalign, you need to do a little extra work during your treatment so your trays can work effectively.
Like with traditional braces, you'll generally need to wear a retainer after Invisalign treatment, as recommended by Dr. Diana or Dr. Neil, to maintain your new alignment and your confident new smile.

Invisalign for Kids
At New England Orthodontic Specialists, we understand the importance of early treatment when it comes to orthodontics for children.
Early treatment can help prevent more complex issues from developing down the line and can result in shorter overall treatment times.
One of our most popular orthodontic treatments for kids is Invisalign First.
Invisalign First is an excellent option for younger patients because it is specifically designed with their needs in mind. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign First uses clear aligners that are virtually invisible and can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.
This makes them much more comfortable and convenient for kids who may have trouble adjusting to the restrictions of traditional braces.
One of the advantages of early orthodontic treatment is that it enables us to correct issues before they become more complex and difficult to treat. There are several signs that indicate the need for orthodontic attention in children.
These include:
- Difficulty biting or chewing
- Mouth breathing
- Thumb-sucking after age 5
- Crowded or misplaced teeth
- Speech difficulties
- Protruding teeth
- Grinding or clenching teeth
By addressing these issues early on with Invisalign First, we can help ensure that your child's teeth and jaw develop in the healthiest way possible.
Invisalign First: What You Need to Know
Invisalign First is designed with younger patients in mind. The aligners are made of clear, BPA-free plastic, making them both comfortable and discreet. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, which makes maintaining good oral hygiene much easier for kids.
Invisalign First aligners are also designed to accommodate growing teeth and jaws, which means they're much less likely to require additional orthodontic treatment down the line. Additionally, Invisalign First aligners gradually shift teeth into their proper position, making the process more gentle and comfortable for kids.
How Invisalign First Works
At the start of your child's treatment, we'll take digital impressions of their teeth using our state-of-the-art iTero scanner. This technology allows us to create a 3D model of your child's teeth and map out their treatment plan. From there, we'll create a series of custom aligners that will gradually shift your child's teeth into their proper position over time.
Your child will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before switching to the next set in the series. Over time, their teeth will gradually shift into alignment, resulting in a straighter, healthier smile.
Is Invisalign First Right for Your Child?
Invisalign First is an excellent option for many younger patients, but it's not right for everyone. During your child's initial consultation, we'll evaluate their teeth and jaw to determine if Invisalign First is the best treatment option for them.

Invisalign for Adults
Orthodontic treatment is not just for children. In fact, healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and many orthodontic problems can be corrected as easily for adults as for children. Orthodontic treatment can improve oral health, facial appearance, confidence and self-esteem, tooth function, periodontal (gum) problems, tooth decay by improving areas where plaque builds up, bone loss around teeth, and abnormal wearing to the tooth surface.
At New England Orthodontic Specialists, we offer a variety of orthodontic treatment options for adults, including Invisalign. Invisalign is a popular treatment option for adults because it is discreet, comfortable, and effective.
Benefits of Invisalign for Adults
- Discreet — Invisalign aligners are made from clear, BPA-free plastic, which makes them virtually invisible. This means that you can straighten your teeth without anyone even knowing that you're undergoing treatment.
- Comfortable — Invisalign aligners are made using advanced technology and custom-fit to your teeth. This means that they're much more comfortable than traditional braces, which can cause irritation and discomfort.
- Convenient — Invisalign aligners are removable, which means that you can take them out when you need to eat, brush, or floss. This makes maintaining good oral hygiene much easier than with traditional braces.
- Effective — Invisalign aligners are designed to gradually shift your teeth into their proper position over time. This means that you can achieve a straighter, healthier smile without the discomfort or inconvenience of traditional braces.
- Versatile — Invisalign can be used to treat a wide range of orthodontic issues, including overcrowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, crossbite, overbite, and underbite.
- Faster Treatment — Invisalign treatment typically lasts between 12-18 months, which is faster than traditional braces. This is because Invisalign aligners are changed every two weeks, meaning the teeth are gradually shifted without the need for frequent adjustments and tightening appointments.
- Affordable — The cost of Invisalign treatment is comparable to that of traditional braces, and many dental insurance plans offer orthodontic benefits that can help cover the cost.
